Walter, Augusta Carolina (14 Sept. 1855 - 29 July 1939)

Augusta Carolina Schoengarth was born September 14, 1855 in Silesia, Germany, the daughter of Carl Schoengarth and Helena Hippe. She passed away July 29, 1939, at 10 a.m. at her residence at 310 S. Grand Ave., Neillsville, Wis.

In the year 1869 she came with her family to this country. She was married to Otto Fredrich Walter on December 26, 1873.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Otto F. Walter, and five children, Hulda, Mrs. Albert Degener, Neillsville; Albert Walter, town of Grant; Melvina, Mrs. Max Lange, St. Paul, Minn.; Otto J. Walter, Hillsdale, Mich.; and Mrs. Pauline Belden, Dickinson, N. Dak. Two children preceded her in death, Ida and Selma. In addition to her children, she leaves eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral services were held at the Jaster Funeral Home at 2 p.m. August 1, Rev. William A. Baumann officiating. Mrs. Jaster sang beautiful and appropriate songs accompanied by Mrs. Allen Randall on the piano. The theme of the sermon and the songs was "At Rest."

The pallbearers were Otto Handke, Clemence Kuechenmeister, John McCarl, Hans Walk, Henry Bartell and Frank Hemp.

Out-of-town visitors and members of the family were: Mr. and Mrs. Max Lange, St. Paul, Minn.; Otto J. Walter, Hillsdale, Mich.; Mrs. Pauline Belden, Dickinson, N. Dak.; Mrs. M. Gruhle, Kewaskum, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schoengarth and daughter Marion, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Gartz, Elkhart, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lindow, Chili; Mrs. Ethel Hogenson, Chili; Mrs. Allen Randall of Ft. Lauderdale, Flordia, and Mr. and Mrs. Florian Thalner of Ironwood, Mich.

Mrs. Walter was a woman of strong character. She had fine executive ability and was an excellent mother to her own and to other children. She was a helpful neighbor to whom people came from far and near for help, advice and cheer and they were never disappointed. Loved and respected by her relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances she was a daily inspiration to better things. In the midst of her heavy home duties, she always found time to nurse sick people, cheer and inspire the tired and worried ones.

In the early years of their farm life, her home was often the stopping place of the circuit rider or missionary preacher and many church services were held in her home.

She was a great lover of flowers and they grew and blossomed wonderfully for her down to the time of her beginning decline in health. She lived a full life in every way.

She received the tenderest care and attention in all the long months of her decline.

With the passing of Mrs. Walter, the older generation of Schoengarths is ended, August, William and Frederick having passed on some time ago.
