Edith A. Backus

WILLARD -- Edith Ann Backus, 75, of Willard, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

She was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Willard to Elmer and Eva (Zallar) Severson. She was united in marriage to Walter Backus on June 21, 1947, in Neillsville, Wis. The couple lived and raised their family in Willard where Edith was a lifelong resident. She was a volunteer at The Highground in Neillsville and a caregiver for many elderly people in the Willard and Greenwood area.

Surviving Edith are her husband, Walter Backus of Willard; her children, William Backus, Greenwood, Les (Lisa Murphy) Backus, Stewartville, Minn., Jim (Jodi) Backus, Greenwood, Bailey Backus, Spencer; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Severson, Plymouth, Minn., and Carl (Joyce) Severson, Westminster, Colo.; and three sisters, Eloda Vollrath, Willard, Yvonne Bruno, Milwaukee, and Virjean Pehlke, Willard.
