Brandt, August C. (29 OCT 1866 - 17 MAR 1945)

Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) - August C. Brandt, 78, a resident of the Withee vicinity since 1884, died Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock at his home west of Withee.

The body is lying in state at the Griebenow Funeral Home, Owen, and Wednesday noon at 12:45 o’clock it will be taken from there to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee, where the Rev. Walter Schedler will officiate at funeral services Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery.

August Carl Frederick Brandt was born Oct. 29, 1866, in Pinnow, Germany, and came to the United States to the Withee vicinity in December, 1844, He worked at various jobs until 1890, when he purchased a farm.

On March 2, 1890, he married Ida Prust at Withee, and they settled on a tract of land, 1 ½ miles west of Withee, which they developed into a modern farm. Fifty years later they moved to a smaller house near that farm.

Mrs. Brandt died Nov. 26, 1944, and a son, William, died at the age of 16 in 1906. Surviving are five children, Joseph, on the home farm; Frederick of Withee; Mrs. Emil (Ida) Niemi, Withee; Mrs. Elmer (Martha) Meyer, Chicago; Mrs. Gilbert (Viola) Meyer, Greenwood; and two grandchildren, Joyce Meyer, Greenwood, and Emil Niemi Jr., Withee.

Mr. Brandt was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Withee the past 54 years.
