Hudson, Margaret Anna (23 Jan. 1862 - 29 July 1940)

Mrs. Margaret Anna Hudson, a resident of Neillsville for the past 34 years, passed away at 9:30 p.m. July 29, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. H. Peterson. She was 78 years, six months and six days of age.

Mrs. Hudson had not felt well for several weeks, but was not confined to her bed. She assisted with the lighter household duties Monday, had dinner with the family and retired shortly after eight. During the evening she remarked that she had felt better that day than she had for some time. She expired a short time after she had notified the family she was ill.

Mrs. Hudson was born near Warsaw, Indiana, January 23, 1862, to Noah and Catherine Sutherlin. On August 18, 1880, she was married to Ira Alt at Warsaw. Two children were born to them: Ernest, Elkhart, Ind.; and Effie, Mrs. B. H. Peterson, Neillsville, Wis. Mr. Alt passed away in July, 1899, at Palestine, Ind.

In 1902 she was again married, to Charles Hudson of Burket, Ind. In 1906 Mr. and Mrs. Hudson and her daughter came to Neillsville and had made this city their home since with the exception of a few years when they returned to Indiana and lived at Michigan City, where Mr. Hudson passed away.

Mrs. Hudson was the quiet, home-loving type of woman. She carried on little activity outside of her own home, but accomplished much in the two organizations selected by her as the most worthwhile institutions to which she could devote her spare time - her church and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. To these she remained faithful to the end and as long as her health permitted she gave freely to her time and strength to their interest. She was especially devoted to her granddaughters, with whom she had always lived and who loved and respected her as one of the family. The life of Mrs. Hudson can well be judged through the esteem in which she was held by these two young women.

She is survived by her children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. D. A. Norris and Mrs. I. D. Alt of Warsaw and Miss Rose Sutherlin, Madeira, Ohio.

Funeral services were held at the Schiller Funeral Home Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Obed Asp, pastor of the Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Asp sang two of Mrs. Hudson’s favorite hymns: "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "The Christian’s Goodnight." Directly after the services, Mr. and Mrs. Peterson and their daughters, Bernadine and Carol, left for Warsaw, Ind., where the last rites will be held Friday in accordance with the wishes of the departed. She will be laid to rest in the Palestine Cemetery beside her husband.
