Hauge, Carrie (15 April 1871 - 12 Sept. 1940)

Mrs. Carrie Hauge passed away at her home in this city Thursday, September 12, after a long illness with heart ailment.

She was born at Solar, Norway, April 15, 1871, the daughter of Halvor and Karen Halverson. At the age of 13, she came to America with her mother, sister, Jennie, and three brothers, Hans, John and Louie. Jennie, Mrs. William McFarland, and John passed away several years ago. Mr. Halverson preceded his family to America. Lacking the means to bring the entire family across the water at one tine, the two oldest children, Hannah, now Mrs. Browne, St. Paul, and Lena, Mrs. Arne Larson, who also has passed away, were obliged to remain in the native land for several years longer.

On the third day of April, 1894, her marriage to Alfred Hauge took place in Neillsville, Wis. Three children were born to them: Edwin, Neillsville; Henry, Chicago, and Miss Alvina, Neillsville, Wis. She also is survived by five grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Browne, St. Paul, and by two brothers, Hans, Kelso, Wash., and Louis, Denver, Col. Mr. Hauge passed away May 16, 1927.

Mrs. Hauge was a woman of modest tastes, charitable and gentle of nature, doing much good through life in a quiet way. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor and Rebakah lodges, the America Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Relief Corps, taking an active part in each of these organizations as long as her health permitted.

Burial rites were held at the Schiller Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 1940, Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the services. Miss Marguerite Brown sang several numbers with Mrs. Jess Scott accompanying at the piano. Interment took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Those who came from distant cities to attend the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Larson, Fond du Lac; Christine Hanson, Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. John Parker, Owen; Margaret Browne, Mrs. Hannah Browne, Mrs. Josephine McFaden, and Mrs. Ewald Pankonin, all of St. Paul, Minn.
