Johnson, Elsie (26 DEC 1866 - 18 JAN 1937)

Mrs. Elsie Johnson, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Gottschalk, on Jan. 18, 1937, reached the age of 70 years and 223 days.

She was born at Holf, Norway, on Dec. 26, 1866, and came to the United States in 1887. She settled with her folks in Jackson County, Wis. Elsie Johnson (nee Erickson) was married to Frederick Johnson at Rhinelander, May 10, 1890. They came to Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1898 and engaged in farming.

Surviving are three children, Mrs. Rufus Stowe, Unity; Oscar Johnson, Colby, and Ms. William Gottschalk, Colby, thirteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Even Anderson, Melrose, and one brother, Sewert Erickson, Melrose.

Mrs. Johnson has been a resident of Green Grove for nearly 40 years, she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law since Dec. 13, when she became afflicted with dropsy and a heart ailment. Funeral services were held at the Gottschalk home Friday afternoon, and interment in the Green Grove Cemetery (Colby - St. Paul’s), Rev. W. Anderson officiating. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death several years ago.

Pallbearers were: Ernest Rahn, John Miller, Richard Wiegman, John Scheer, D.R. McDonald, and John Augustine. Flower girls, Josephine Stowe, Alvina Gottschalk, Florence Stowe, and Viola Gosse.

At the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Even Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Olson and Sewert Erickson, all of Melrose.
