Petersen, Peter K. (24 JAN 1861 - 21 JUL 1937)

Funeral services for Peter Kristian Petersen will be held at the Danish Lutheran Church at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) on Saturday afternoon. Rev. Holst will officiate. Mr. Petersen died at his home on Wednesday morning after an illness of three years. He was 76 years old. Burial will be made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers will be Sam Andersen, Jens Andersen, Emil V. Hansen, Christ Nissen, Jacob Christensen and Alfred Frost.

Peter Kristian Petersen was born in Torrild, Denmark on Jan. 24, 1861. On Dec. 30, 1881, he was united in marriage to Stenna Hansen at Bresten, Denmark. The following spring he brought his bride to America and together they made their home at Hutchinson, Minn. On May 6, 1893, they moved to Withee, which consisted of but a few families at that time. Here he built and operated a brickyard up until recent years, when he retired from the business and purchased a farm in the city of Owen, Wis. He had been actively engaged in farming up until recent years when his health began to fail. His son, Ben, took over active management of the farm at that time.

He started and organized the first Danish colony at Withee and also helped to build the Withee Danish Lutheran Church of which he was an active member until his death.

Mr. Petersen is survived by his son, Ben, who lives on the home farm, and three daughters, Mrs. Niels Petersen, Sena and Clara Petersen, all of Owen, Wis. Mrs. Petersen preceded him in death several years ago.
