Wagner, Mary (5 OCT 1853 - 10 OCT 1931)

Mrs. John Wagner passed away at one a.m. Oct. 10, 1931, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.O. Rasmussen, in this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.). She had attained the age of 78 years and five days.

Mary Meyer was born in the town of Schleswieg, Manitowoc Co., Oct. 5th, 1853, where she grew to womanhood. On Sept. 13th, 1871 she was united in marriage to John Wagner of the town of Meeme. To this union nine children were born, five of whom survive to mourn her loss. There are: William J. and Joseph of Reseburg; Mrs. Frances Rasmussen of Thorp; George, whose whereabouts are unknown, and Mrs. Theresa Heiser of Worden; nine grandchildren, also two brothers, Joseph Meyer and George Meyer of Reseburg, and one sister, Mrs. Frances Hickman of this village. In the year 1885, Mr. and Mrs. Wagner, with their family, came to Clark County, locating on a farm three miles south of Thorp, which was her home up to the time of her death, and as pioneers they watched the county develop from a veritable wilderness into a thriving community of today. Mr. Wagner preceded his wife in death April 28th, 1921. Mrs. Wagner was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and a friend to be depended upon. Probably no other person in this community was better known or had more friends, and her loss will be felt not only by her own family, but by everyone who knew her. To her last day she was a faithful member of the Catholic Church and a practical, everyday Christian. The funeral services were conducted from St. Bernard’s Church on Monday morning, Rev. Muckerheide officiating, interment following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

May she rest in peace.

The pallbearers were John Clerf, Theodore Hendricks, Wm. Kenney, Henry Bauers, Aug. Schroeder and Theodore Broeren.
