Knudson, Nina A. (1 AUG 1889 - 18 FEB 1944)

Nina Augusta Knudson, nee Gaarder, was born near Albany, Wis., Aug. 1, 1889. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 12, she moved with her parents to a farm near St. Ansgar, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She was graduated from the St. Ansgar High School, and was a teacher at rural school there for 2 years.

On March 21, 1911, she was united in marriage to Leonard Knudson of Brodhead, Wis. Six children blessed this union. Following her marriage, she moved with her husband to a farm near Brodhead, where they lived for a year, then moving to her parents farm near St. Ansgar, Iowa. Four years were spent in Carpenter, Iowa, where she acted as assistant to her husband in the Post Office. Several years were spent at Estherville, Iowa and from there they moved to Ladysmith, Wis., where she acted as Sunday School Superintendent in a Sunday School. One years was also spent in Montana. Later they moved to Clark County, near Greenwood, where she was very active in church work in the Trondhjem Lutheran Church, of which she was a member. They then moved to their farm near Atwood (Clark Co.) where they lived 7 years, then moving to their home at Withee, where she passed away at 2:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 1944, at the age of 54 years, 6 months and 17 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, an aged mother, 4 children, Leonard Jr. of Stillwater, Minn.; Mrs. Howard Ruth (Margaret) of Appleton, Nadine and Omar at home; 2 sisters, Mrs. L.A. Ask (Bertha) of Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Carl Golberg (Anna) of Carpenter, Iowa and Miss Ida Gaarder of California; and Mr. Henry Gaarder of Osage, and two grandchildren, and also a host of other relatives and friends.

Her father and one brother and two children, Leon and Gertrude, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m. at the home at Withee and at 2:00 p.m. at the Trondhjem Lutheran Church, Greenwood, Rev. M.K. Aaberg, pastor, officiated. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

During the services Mrs. Ernest Elmer and Mrs. Daniel Olson sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "No Nigh There", accompanied by Mrs. M.K. Aaberg.

The pallbearers were: Ernest Elmer, Carl Turnquist, Arthur Turnquist, David Danielson Jr., all of Greenwood, Alvin Thorson, Withee and D.R. McDonald, Atwood.

Those in charge of the flowers were the Misses Betty Weaver and Emily Jagodzinski.
