Bogdonovich, Edward Mitchell (June 9, 1921 - February 6, 2007)

Edward M. Bogdonovich, age 85, of Greenwood, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the William S. Middleton Memorial VA Hospital in Madison.

Edward Mitchell Bogdonovich was born on June 9, 1921 in Willard, to Eli and Stephanie (Poppish) Bogdonovich. His family moved to Gary, IN for a short time, but moved back to the Willard/Greenwood area where Ed was raised and received his education. In 1939, Ed entered the United States Marine Corp. in Chicago, and served his country during World War II until his discharge in 1946. While in the Marine Corp., he was held as a prisoner of war in Japan for over four years.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Bertz on May 31, 1949 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. He owned and operated Eddy’s Tog Shop in Greenwood until his retirement. Later, he helped his Amish neighbors by driving them wherever they needed to go. Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, chopping/splitting wood, and loved to be out in the woods where he could enjoy nature.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood American Legion Post #238; Central Wisconsin Ex-Prisoner of Wars, Disabled American Veterans, the Catholic Knights, and the Knights of Columbus Lady of Fatima Council #4963. He also served as an alderman for the City of Greenwood in Ward 4.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Greenwood; one son, William (Mabel), of Willard; one step-grandson, Rod Stockebrand, of Minneapolis, MN; one step-granddaughter, Barbie (Adrian) Dealman, of Rivertown, WY; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Mary Lee Bogdonovich and Blaine Bogdonovich; two brothers, Peter Bogdonovich and Robert Bogdonovich; two sisters, Eva Lesar and Mayme Bogdonovich in infancy.

A memorial service was held on Monday February 12, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. Fr. Joseph Follmar officiated. Military rites were conducted by the Greenwood American Legion immediately after the service. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
