Jeras, Valentine (25 JAN 1875 - 28 OCT 1944)

Valentine Jeras, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jeras, was born in Austria on Ja. 25, 1875. Here he grew to manhood, coming to Willard (Clark Co., Wis.) 34 years ago.

He passed away at his home in Willard on Saturday, Oct. 28, 1944 at 11:00 p.m., having reached the age of 69 years, 9 months and 3 days. Mr. Jeras had been in poor health for some time.

A Requiem Mass was sung and Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m., Rev. Father Raphael officiated. He was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.

Valentine Jeras Sr. was born in the village of Gaminle, Pod Goro, Slovenia, Jugoslavia on Jan. 25, 1875. On Sept. 15, 1900 he was married to Catherine Hamler in the village of Brezce, Jugoslavia. They moved to Germany where he was employed until 1909 when the family moved to Springfield, Ill. In 1917 they moved to Willard where he was engaged in farming and where they resided ever since.

Mr. Jeras passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28, 1944 from cancer of the left lung. He has been ill for some time.

A funeral mass was sung at Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard on Tuesday, Oct. 31, and he was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Father Raphael officiated.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Valentine Jr., Joseph and Frank, all of Chicago, and Anton at home, three daughters, Mrs. Victor (Johanna) Klarich, Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Victor (Mary) Ciphron, Chicago; Mrs. Frank (Catherine) Tartar, Chicago, and nine grandchildren.
