Stevens, Louis (22 April 1866 - 19 Dec. 1937)

Death claimed another old settler when Louis Stevens answered the final summons, at 1:45 Sunday afternoon, Dec. 19, 1937, at his home northeast of Humbird.

Louis Stevens was born at Waukesha, April 22, 1866. He was one of six children born to John and Mary Stevens. At the age of four years, he came with his parents to Humbird, settling on a homestead. Here he grew to young manhood, and with the aid of his father and wand untiring labor, created a home farm. In was here that his entire life was spent, as he loved his home and family.

On Nov. 2, 1896, he was united in marriage to Rose Young. To this union were born twelve children, all of whom survive him.

For the past twelve years, he suffered intense pain, but at all times bore it with utmost patience, but no one knew but those who cared for him how much he suffered. The best of care was given him at different hospitals, and it was known for some time that his health could not be improved; but his death came as a shock to his loved ones. He passed away at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 26 days.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and twelve children: Mrs. Chris Ivanish, Malta, Mont.; Mrs. Steve Kubaskie, Humbird; Mrs. Vernon Mitchell, Menomonie; Edward, Miles City, Mont.; Archie, Millville, Minn.; Theodore, Great Falls, Mont.; Harry, Daisy, Dot, Rosie, Ida, and Ernest at home; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the M. E. Church, with Rev. F. A. Fahlgren officiating. The choir sang two of his favorite hymns," Nearer My God to Thee," and "Rock of Ages."

Burial was made in Mentor Cemetery beside his parents.
