Ray, Frank (4 May 1846 - 7 April 1938)

Frank Ray was born in Germany May 4, 1846, and died at Neillsville April 7, 1938, lacking but 27 days of being 92 years of age. Mr. Ray was one of the oldest men in this section. When eighteen years of age he came to America, setting first at Oshkosh, where on October 19, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Kleinschmidt, and soon after their home was made on the farm north of this village. They continued to reside on the farm until old age took them to live with a son in Levis.

In the early days on the farm Mr. Ray was employed in the Foster Mill at Fairchild, walking to the mill, ten hours of labor, walking home, and doing his farm work at early and late hours. He was always honest and industrious, gaining the respect of all.

To Mr. and Mrs. Ray were born thirteen children, two of whom, Margaret, and Joseph, preceded him in death.

Surviving are wife, seven daughters and for sons; Mrs. Anna Stewart, Battle Creek, Mich.; Mrs. Helen Bauer, Los Angeles; Mrs. Lucia Zook, Augusta; Mrs. Martha Neubauer, Fremont; Mrs. Emma Head, Owen; John, town of Garden Valley, Frank, La Crosse; William, town of Levis; Mary, Sr. Adolpha, Rena, Sr. Marcella, Belleville, Ill.; and Carl, Reeseville.

The funeral was conducted from the Kretschmer home in this village Monday at 9:00 a.m. and at 9:30 from St. Joseph’s church, Fairview, the Rev. J. J. Sheridan officiating.
