Bizer, John (16 APR 1867 - 12 APR 1932)

It was with sadness that Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends learned last week of the death of Rev. J. Bizer, who for 17 years was pastor of the Evangelical Church on Broadway at Medford and of the Evangelical Peace Church of this village. He passed away last Thursday afternoon, April 12, 1932, at the farm home of his son, Julius, in the town of Browning.

Death was due to heart failure. He had been ailing the past year and his condition became serious in December so that his passing was not unexpected. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Medford Evangelical Church, with Rev. Herman Dahlman, a brother-in-law, of Cottage Grove, Minn., officiating. Rev. Bizer’s four sons acted as pallbearers.

John Bizer was born at Tilfengen, Germany, April 16, 1867 and lacked but 4 days of being 65 years old. The first 20 years of his life, Rev. Bizer spent in Germany, coming to the United States in 1887 to enter Eden Seminary, St. Louis, Mo., to study for the ministry.

At the completion of his seminary course Rev. Bizer went to Shelby, Iowa, to take charge of his first parish. On October 10, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Reichert in the town of Russell, Sheboygan County. Seven children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy, while Bizer’s were still at Shelby.

From Iowa the Bizers moved to Sheboygan County, where Rev. Bizer had charge of the parishes in the towns of Mosel and Meeme. In 1906 he and his family were transferred to Colby where he served as pastor for seven years, after which time they moved to Medford to serve there and at Dorchester, Wis.

About two years ago Rev. and Mrs. Bizer left Medford for Woodman, where he served for one year. In May of last year he gave up his parish, when Mrs. Bizer was taken to the Marshfield Hospital, and moved to Medford to live with his son, Julius. Mrs. Bizer passed away last fall.

The deceased leaves four sons, Julius, town of Browning; Eugene, Medford; Alvin, Marshfield; and Herbert, Adams; two daughters, Hildegarde, Mrs. Paul Jantsch, Medford, and Miss Irma, Milwaukee; one sister, Anna Bizer, Tilfengen, Germany, and a brother, Jacob of Benton Harbor, Mich. There are three grandchildren, Harold James Eugene, and Barbara Jean.

The many friends of the Bizer’s in this community join us in offering sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the mourning ones.
