Ehlers, Caroline (25 Dec. 1851 - 20 Aug. 1946)

Mrs. Caroline Ehlers, nee Haeuser, was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 23, 1946. She succumbed at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. E. J. Meigs of Milwaukee, at the age of 94 years.

Caroline Haeuser was born in Mequon, Wisconsin, on December 25, 1851. There also, she was married to Adolf Ehlers in 1869. The marriage was blessed with four sons and five daughters: Louis (deceased); Henry of Wapella, Saskatchewan. Charles of Seattle, Washington; Herman of Cornucopia, Wisconsin, Bertha (Mrs. E. J. Meigs) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Alvina (deceased); Louise (Mrs. Jacob Mueller) of Seattle, Washington; Helena (Mrs. William McNeight) Unity, Wisconsin, and Marie (Mrs. George West) of Kansas City, Missouri.

The family moved to Spencer, Wisconsin, in 1884. After the Spencer fire of 1885 carpenter Adolf and sons played a major role in rebuilding the village. They remained in Spencer until his death in 1910. For the next 36 years, Mrs. Ehlers lived with sons and daughters scattered about Wisconsin, being with her eldest daughter, Bertha, from 1934 until the day of her death, August 20, 1946, when she passed quietly from this world.

Funeral services were conducted at the Froemming-Boecher Funeral Parlor in Milwaukee, the Rev. E. P. Dornfeld officiating. Appropriate for almost a century of labor and love in the fear of God was the text: "O Give Thanks unto the Lord; for He is Good; For His Mercy Endureth Forever," Psalm 106, 1.

She is survived by three sons and four daughters, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives.
