Schmid, Susan (12 April 1858 - 13 Dec. 1939)

Susan Harris was born near Milwaukee, on April 12, 1858, and died at Altoona, Dec. 13, 1939, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 13 days.

When she was a small child her parents and the brothers and sisters, moved onto a homestead in Fairview vicinity, being amongst the earliest settlers in these parts. Here she grew to young womanhood, and in March, 1886, nearly fifty-four years ago, was united in holy wedlock at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairview, with Mr. John Schmid. To this union one daughter, Josephine, was born.

Mrs. Schmid resided in Humbird nearly all of her married life. A couple of years were spent at Abbotsford about forty-five years ago, and the past few years she and her husband closed their home and spent the winter months at the home of their daughter and family in Altoona where she passed away after a long period of failing health.

Mrs. Schmid was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church of Fairview, were funeral services were held Saturday forenoon, the Rev. J. J. Sheridan officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at the church. Many old friends attended the burial rites, relatives and friends attending from away, were: E. G. Garber and family, Henry Harris and family, John Harris, Sr., and son John, Peter Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Holin, of Altoona, Mrs. Julia Hauer, Dr. and Mrs. Stark, Mr. and Mrs. John Stanley, Lloyd Stanley, of Eau Claire, and Harry Miller and family, of Fairchild.

Mrs. Schmid is survived by her aged husband, her daughter, Mrs. G. E. Stanley, of Altoona, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a sister residing at Merrill, and two brothers, John and Peter Harris, now living with relatives in Altoona; also a number of nieces and nephews.
