James Gutenberger

James Gutenberger, 75, Colby, died Thursday, February 8th, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services were held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, Monsignor John Malik presided.

Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kelly Schlafke, Kari Schaefer, Krystal Schaefer, Amanda Bauman, Nicole Fieten, Brady Mengel, Jenny Raatz and Daya DeVries.

Jim was born July 24th, 1931 in the Town of Colby to Elroy and Anna (Engel) Gutenberger. He was a 1949 graduate of Colby, Wis. High School.

Jim and Grace (Miller) were married April 13th 1955. Jim took over the home farm and continued to live there until the time of his death.

He was a life long member of the Central Wisconsin Steam Engine Club, serving as president and was on the Town of Colby Zoning Committee. Jim was a self taught button box player and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was an avid reader, loved to polka dance and enjoyed sports and NASCAR.

Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years, Grace Gutenberger of Colby; his children, Michael Gutenberger of Colby, Rebecca Gutenberger of Marshfield, Daniel (Rhonda) Gutenberger of Colby, William Gutenberger of Colby, Carol (Mark) Bauman of Tomahawk, Nancy (Pat) Mengel of Colby, Craig (Anna) Gutenberger of Unity and Ron (Stacy) Gutenberger of Colby; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy (Ann) Gutenberger of Merrill; and there sisters, Rita (Armin) Walsh of Marshfield, Eldora (Gordon) Schuster of Marshfield, and Eileen (Melvin) Bender of Wausau.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sharon Treutel.

Maurina-Community Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
