Stoiber, John Sr. (30 MAY 1854 - 2 JAN 1933)

Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends were saddened to learn of the death of John Stoiber Sr., who passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 1933, at his farm home 2 ¾ miles northwest of the village. Death was caused by bronchial pneumonia and heart trouble, from which he suffered for two and one-half weeks.

Funeral services were conducted at the St. Louis Catholic Church Thursday morning at 10 o’clock with Rev. Paul Pitzenberger officiating. Interment took place in the Memorial Cemetery with John Goessl, John Schmidt, Joe Bauernfeind, Frank Engel, Anton Nachtwey and Joe Kronschnabl acting as pallbearers.

John Stoiber was born at Ragen, Bavaria, Germany on May 20, 1854 and passed away at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 3 days. He grew to manhood at his home there and on Oct. 26, 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Angeline Mader. Four children were born to this union, one daughter, the former Mrs. Irvin Goessl, who preceded her father in death. In 879 the Stoibers came to the United States and settled in Appleton, where they lived for about 20 years. In 1900 they moved to Dorchester to the farm home they now occupy.

Besides his wife, Mr. Stoiber leaves one daughter, Sophia, Mrs. Joe Dessl, two sons, Frank and John, ten grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Stoiber was very well known in this section of the country and his cheery disposition and kind words brought a host of friends to his side. An upstanding citizen and faithful member of the Catholic Church, Mr. Stoiber was one who was lived and honored among his fellowmen. His friends will miss him greatly, but his wife and children will feel the greater loss for he was ever a loving husband and kind father.

The many friends and neighbors join us in offering sincerest sympathy and condolence to the mourning ones.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mrs. Henry Schwallbach, Mrs. Hannah Fischer, John Fischer Sr., and Ed Fischer, of Appleton, Mrs. Jos. Vandenhayel and son, Ralph, of Little Chute, Mrs. Mary Stangel, Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. John Geiger of Loyal, and Anton Nachtwey of Bloomer.
