Stanley, Norman H. (16 Jan. 1870 - 28 July 1935)

The community was shocked and grieved last Sunday morning when it was learned that Norm Stanley had expired suddenly at his garage, after servicing a couple of cars. He was standing in the doorway, and exclaimed that something was going to happen, and fell lifeless into the arms of his helper, C. M. Briggs. The body was removed to Kretschmer’s funeral parlor.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. V. D. Weidler officiating, and interment was in Mentor Cemetery. Many beautiful flowers covered the burial plot, a tribute from relatives and friends.

Relatives from away attending the funeral were his brother, G. E. Stanley and family, of Altoona, sister, Mrs. Frank Leonard, of Reedsburg, Norman McClaflin, of Eau Claire, Wm. Crum and wife, Wis. Vet Home, Dan Phillips of Detroit Lakes, Minn. Many old neighbors from the farm vicinity were also in the congregations.

Norman N. Stanley, second of four children, was born Jan. 16, 1870, to Henry and Elizabeth Stanley, pioneer residents of this community, at Nettleton’s Corners, and died suddenly July 28, 1935, having reached the age of 65 years, 6 months and 12 days.

When but a small boy he went with his parents to a fine farm southwest of town that continued to be his home until he retired seven years ago and moved to Humbird.

He was united in marriage with Miss Agnes Robinson on Thanksgiving Day, 1894, and to them three sons were born: Henry, who resides on the home farm; Clarence, of Owen; and Chester, of this village. On March 23, 1929, the wife and mother was called to her Eternal Home.

On June 24, 1930, Mr. Stanley was married to Mrs. Cora Anderson, and they have continued to make their home in this village.

Mourning his sudden death are his wife; three children; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Leonard, of Reedsburg, and Mrs. Naomi McClaflin, of Humbird; one brother, George E. Stanley, of Altoona; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Stanley was a man of wife acquaintance and high esteem in which he was held by the many who knew him is an excellent testimony to the uprightness of his character. In his sudden demise the community feels a sense of real loss.
