Gerald A. Nelson

Gerald A. Nelson, 81, of Marshfield, died on Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Marshfield Center under the care of Ministry Home Care Services.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2007, at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili with the Rev. John Trewyn officiating. Entombment will be in Hillside Mausoleum with Everett, Kenneth, Lowell, Erlin, Raymond and Lavern Roehl, Ruben and Archie Vanderhoof Jr. serving as the pallbearers.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Gerald was born Aug. 12, 1925, in the town of Spencer to Ed Sr. and Viola (Bodendorfer) Nelson. He attended area schools. On May 22, 1948, he married Lila Roehl at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili. Gerald and Lila farmed for two years in the Veefkind area and 13 years in the Chili area. They moved to Spencer in 1963 where Gerald was manager of the United Building Center for 16 years. He then worked 12 years in the housekeeping department at Saint Joseph's Hospital, retiring in 1991. The couple moved to Marshfield in 2005.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chili.

Gerald enjoyed antique cars, country music, camping, playing cards and making wood crafts.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 58 years, Lila; three sisters, Ruby (Alvin) Heckel of Marshfield, Nila (Archie) Vanderhoof of Arpin, and Carol Harriman of Marshfield; sisters-in-law Marian Nelson of Spencer, Naomi Roehl of Marshfield and Evelyn Roehl of Marshfield; brothers-in-law, Walter Roehl of Granton, Harvey Roehl of Neillsville, Carl (Delma) Roehl of Chili and Leo (Verna) Roehl of Chili; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by one sister, Audrey Kampin; and a brother, Ed Nelson Jr.
