Schumacher, John Henry (8 March 1874 - 21 July 1936)

John Schumacher, brother of Mrs. George Barkley, died Tuesday night at a sanatorium at Appleton. Mr. Schumacher suffered an attack of pleurisy and tuberculosis followed. The remains will be brought here for burial, and services will be held at 1:00 o’clock Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Barkley and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hart, of Fairchild, auto to Appleton last Sunday to see Mr. Schumacher, at the hospital.

John Henry Schumacher passed away at Little Chute, Tuesday, July 21, 1936, at 11:30 p.m. He was born at Watertown, Wis., March 8, 1874, being 62 years, 4 months and 13 days of age at the time of his death.

The son of John and Mary Schumacher, his home was at Watertown until early childhood, when his parents moved to this vicinity. On November 24, 1898, he married Miss Christine Eisenhart, who died on Nov. 3, 1923. Two daughters also preceded him in death.

Nine years ago he went to Dale, Wis., to make his home with his daughter, Anna, with whom he resided at the time of his death, being ill only a few weeks. Many friends at Dale and vicinity mourn his death, as was shown by the sprays of flowers sent from Dale, Mendina, New London, and Appleton.

His five sons-in-law and friend from Dale acted as pallbearers at the funeral which was held at the Reformed Church Saturday afternoon, the remains being brought here for interment in Mentor Cemetery beside those of his wife. Mr. Schumacher is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Erwin Borgwardt, Mrs. Ewald Selle, Mrs. Emil Wollerman, of Dale; Mrs. Edwin Lund and Mrs. Sylvester Hauk, of New London. There are sixteen grandchildren. Three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Tina Jankowsky of Merrill; Mrs. Minie Barkley of Humbird, Mrs. Mattie Zillmer of Fairchild, Ernest W. of Minocqua, and Burt of Osseo, mourn his death.
