Waichulis, Joseph Adam (January 14, 1920 - April 13, 2007)

Joseph A. Waichulis, Sr., age 87, of Thorp (Town of Withee), died at his home on Friday, April 13, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Meier, Scott Waichulis, Joe Waichulis III, Jason Waichulis, Kelvin Waichulis and Tina Meier. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Monday, April 16, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary ser4vice, and at church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Joseph Adam Waichulis was born on January 14, 1920 in Albert, West Virginia to Adam and Michalena (Hyduek) Waichulis. His family moved to Thorp on July 1, 1929 where Joe was raised and received his education at Blueberry School. He was united in marriage to Dawn Swim on May 3, 1947 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. They raised their family and farmed in the Town of Withee, northeast of Thorp. Joe also worked at Stanley Corporation for a few years in the mid-1950. He resided on the farm until the time of his death.

Joe was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and had many interests, but especially loved fishing, hunting, playing the concertina and time with his family.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Dawn, of Thorp; two children: Joe Jr. (Avis) Waichulis of Thorp and Margie (Dennis) Goodman of Stratford; three grandchildren: Joe III (Tracy) Waichulis, Scott (Ellen) Waichulis, and Tina (Scott) Meier; four great-grandchildren: Kelvin, Jason, Makayla and Nakita Waichulis; two nieces: Mary (Marv) Dexter and Mary (Wiley) Yates; two brothers-in-law: Harley (Helen) Swim and Ellrey (Jane) Swim; two sisters-in-law: Anita Swim and Arvalee (Ernie) Spaltner; and two cousins: Charlotte Urbanek and Joyce (John) Kramer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-brother: Tony Waichulis; and two step-sisters: Lena Conta and Anna Gribon.
