Langjahr, Elmer Adolph (29 Jul. 1895 - 25 Sept. 1948)

Elmer Adolph Langjahr was one of the twin sons born to Otto and Amelia Langjahr at Kiel, Wisconsin, July 29th, 1895. The Langjahr family moved to Colby, Wis. in 1904, making that city their home for many years.

Elmer and his twin brother, Oliver, were in the draft of World War I. Oliver contracted the flu while aboard ship sailing for Europe and died shortly after reaching the shores of England. Elmer joined the Armed Forces in May 1918 in the 311th Engineers. He was in service fourteen months, nine months, overseas; and was honorably discharged from the United States Army in July 1919.

On December 8th, 1923, he was united in marriage with Pearl Evangeline Draper at Rockford, Ill. They planned to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary this year.

He and his brother Arvin operated the Economy Store in the village back in 1926 until 1928 when they sold out.

In 1930 he took over the mail messenger job and in 193? he became caretaker at the Soo Line Depot, which work he did until the time of his recent illness. He worked his last day February 27th.

The Master Killer of mankind fastened its hold upon him and he died of cancer of the esophagus though all medical aid and attention at the Marshfield and Wisconsin General Hospitals were given him. Elmer left this life in the moon drenched morning of September 25th at 2:30 in the arms of his wife.

He leaves his widow, Pearl Evangeline, one niece, Mrs. Leslea Lorrain Turner, who as a child made her home with the Langjahr’s and one brother, Arvin T. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a member of the local American Legion Post, whose services have been untiring in making his life more comfortable during his illness.

Relatives gathered at the Lulloff Funeral Home for short services at 11:30. Services were held at the Methodist Church at 2 o’clock with Rev. Smith, the pastor, and Rev. Olson, Chaplain of the American Legion, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Domer were the singers accompanied by Mrs. Tom Loughead.

The American Legion and Auxiliary were in attendance together with a large host of friends. Military rites were held at the Colby cemetery.

Pallbearers were Herman Leffel, Howard Crossgrove, Anton Korntved. Gust Carlson, Frank Jordan and Joe Spencer.

Relatives who attended from out of town were Herman Luloff and Harold Luloff, Kiel; Wm. Langjahr, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Krueger, George Wittkopp, all of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lueloff, Mrs. Ida Lueloff, Miss Gertrude Lueloff, Fred Grambort, all of Colby; Miss Edna Grambort, San Francisco; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Krause, Illies; Herman Ewert, Long Lake.
