Hudson, Hiram F. (8 OCT 1845 - 20 MAR 1934)

Hiram F. Hudson died at the home of his son, Arthur F. Hudson, at Minneapolis, on Tuesday, March 20, 1934, as the result of a heart stroke. He was born at Benton Maine, on Oct. 8, 1845, where he grew to manhood, after which he came to Fond du Lac, Wis., and was engaged in logging on the Wolf River for a number of years. In 1882 he became a member of the firm of Nye, Lusk and Hudson at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), which concern operated a saw mille for about forty years. When the company started in business her Thorp was a struggling hamlet. In the various activities of the company - lumber, milling, mercantile, real estate and financial, Mr. Hudson took his part. A man of plain unassuming manner, he was interested not only in the development of his own interests, but also in the progress of the village and community, always doing his duty as a good citizen. He had seen a lumbering country develop into a region of rich farms and successful dairying industries, with himself a most important factor in that change. Upon the death of Messrs. Nye and Lusk he organized the Thorp Lumber Co. which is still a going concern. Mr. Hudson was united in marriage with Miss Pauline Schoenlaub of Fond du Lac on Jan. 22, 1874, where they resided until 1888 when they moved to Thorp. Mrs. Hudson died in 1930. Deceased leaves two sons, Guy and Arthur Hudson, both residents of Minneapolis, another son Sydney aged 17, died in 1904.

Mr. Hudson had been in excellent health and very active up to the hour of death. The past three winters were spent with his sons in Minneapolis and the summer at home in Thorp.

Arising about seven o’clock Tuesday morning a felling a slight pain in his heart, the doctor was called. A little medicine instantly relieved him and it was thought he had entirely recovered. Another and more severe attack, however, proved fatal and he passed away before eight o’clock.

The remains of the deceased were brought here on Thursday and funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, Rev. Wendell Bennetts of Knapp, and Rev. J. Irish officiated, burial following the services in the village cemetery.

The pallbearers were Geo. Zillmann, Victor Soli, Jos. Klouda, H. Leibole, Jos. Sheblak and R.G. Lawrence. Honorary: W.R. McCutcheon and T.O. Mosher.
