James O’Neill was surprised last Saturday on meeting an acquaintance of his boyhood, James Clements, formerly of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County, N. Y. Mr. Clements enlisted in the 16th N. Y. regiment in April, 1861, and participated in the battles of Bull Run, City Point, Seven days battle, Chantilly, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Salem Church, and was one of the few who returned from these terrible battles. He was mustered out in 1863, and at once reenlisted in the 39th N. Y. Gen. N. M. Curtis, the tallest soldier in the Eastern Army, went out as captain of Co. G. of the 16th N. Y. There are in Clark County, Wis., three who were comrades of Mr. Clements in the 16th. They are Theodore W. Davis, Leroy Osgood and C. N. Allen. Mr. Clements’ home is at Stillwater, Minn.
