Schwantes, Walter George (15 Aug. 1903 - 28 Jan. 1956)

Spencer, Wis. - Funeral services will be at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church here for Walter George Schwantes, town of Lynn cheesemaker, who died Saturday night at Madison General Hospital, Madison. He was 52 years old and had resided in Spencer for the past two years.

The body is at the Swarthout Funeral Home, where it will lie in state until 1 p.m. Tuesday, when it will be taken to the church. The Rev. Randolph Mueller will conduct the final rites and burial will follow in the West Spencer cemetery.

Mr. Schwantes was born in the town of Unity Aug. 15, 1903, and was married to the former Ruth Buck June 3, 1926, at Edgar. He was a cheesemaker all his adult life and operated a cheese factory in the town of Lynn with his only son, William Schwantes.

He was also active in school affairs and at one time served as school treasurer of the town of Holton. He was affiliated with the local Lions Club, Lutheran Church and the Central Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves a mother, Mrs. William Schwantes, Colby; two brothers, Maynard of Loyal and Donald of Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Byron Neville, Milwaukee, and two granddaughters. Two infant daughters preceded him in death.
