Olson, Edward (1872 - 2 May 1931)

Ed. Olson, age fifty-nine, a retired Soo Line engineer and a resident of Curtiss since 1918, was seized with a heart attack while in Abbotsford and fell dead on the street in that village last Saturday afternoon.

Olson had motored Saturday afternoon to Abbotsford from his farm three miles north of Curtiss to attend to business matters, and met James Heida, who inquired concerning his health. Continuing along the street, he dropped without warning, Dr. J. A. Rilling, Abbotsford dentist, was the first to reach him, and found that his heart had ceased beating.

He was carried to the A. J. Meyers undertaking establishment and Dr. R. R. Jandrain, local physician, was called, who pronounced death due to heart failure. The county coroner, Dr. Horace Frank, was notified, but did not consider an inquest necessary.

Mr. Olson grew to manhood in the vicinity of Abbotsford, and was in the employ of the Soo Line for a number of years prior to 1928, when he was obliged to retire because of heart trouble. He was married in 1897 to Miss Freda Kluve of Abbotsford, who survives him, together with their two children, Eugene, in charge of the home farm since 1918, and Miss Margaret Olson, a stenographer in Eau Claire.

He was prominent in Masonic circles, and was affiliated with the Abbotsford Blue Lodge and the Chippewa Falls commandery, Knights Templars, as well as the Abbotsford Eastern Star chapter and the Brotherhood of Railway Engineers.

Mr. Olson was also prominent in Farmers’ Union activities, and was elected a member of the state board of directors at the meeting held last fall in Menomonie.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Abbotsford Presbyterian church with the Abbotsford lodge, F. & A.M., in charge and the pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Internment took place in the Colby cemetery.

*** Note: Mr. Olson’s year of birth is from the Colby Memorial Cemetery index on this site.
