Schecklmann, George (1 DEC 1855 - 6 JUL 1939)

The tolling of the church bell Friday evening proclaimed the death of another of Clark County’s pioneers. George Schecklmann died suddenly at his home of a heart attack July 6th at 5:30 P. M.

Mr. Schecklmann was born in Germany Dec. 1, 1855. When a young man about 17 years of age he came to America with his parents. He lived in Jefferson for 17 years then came to a farm in Heintown in the township of York, Clark Co. He was married to Annie Schmidt, Sept. 8, 1890 in Neillsville, Wis. In those days Heintown was a small lumber village and for several years Mr. Schecklmann was postmaster there, the post office being his house.

Mr. and Mrs., Schecklmann lived on their farm in Heintown for 42 years. Seven years ago they decided to move to the village of Loyal as advancing age made farm work too difficult for them. Throughout the many years of his residence in this community Mr. Schecklmann has proved himself a good friend and neighbor.

His funeral was held in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Monday A. M. Father Aloys Zinthefer officiated at the service. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery.

Pall bearers were John Geiger, Fred Stutte, Joe Wedl, Peter Hannon, Bonnie Wehe, and John Goetz.

He is survived by his wife, six children, two brothers, two sisters, and nineteen grandchildren. His three sons Leo, Phillip and Albert live in the town of York near Loyal. A daughter, Mrs. James Gibson (Rose) lives at Woodland, Calif.; another daughter Mrs. George Walter (Frances) lives at Loyal, and a third Mrs. Albert Rushlow (Tillie) lives at Beaver Dam. His brother Norbert lives at Jefferson and Joseph at Owen, Wis. His sister Mrs. John Meyer (Mary) lives at Jefferson and Mrs. Albert Schweiger (Barbara) lives at Milwaukee.

The following out of town relatives attended the funeral: Norbert Schecklmann, Frank Meyer and Mrs. Albert Lucas of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rushlow and son Edward of Beaver Dam; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schecklmann and son Louie of Owen; Miss Verna Facklamn, Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Facklamn and son Colby.
