Evans, Helen (21 Feb. 1916 - 22 June 2007)

Helen Evans, 91, of Neillsville, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at her home in town of Pine Valley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Helen Klepek was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Sophi (Duplaga) Klepek. She married George Evanchak on Nov. 22, 1938, in Chicago. George was killed in action during World War II, leaving Helen to raise two small children. In 1948, she moved to Neillsville and farmed, raising chickens and Christmas trees.

She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose, a Camp Fire Girls leader; she was a member of the Widows of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a co-chair of the AARP for several years.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Carol (George) Nezworski of Appleton and Sonia (David) Doboy of Neillsville; four grandchildren, Loren Foemmel, Rick Thomas, Kevin Christiansen and Kelly Christiansen; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George and seven siblings.
