Wood, Victor Alonzo (December 10, 1918 - June 12, 2007)

Victor A. Wood, 88, founder of Wood Sales and Service, Inc. of Black River Falls, died Tuesday morning, June 12, 2007, in Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls.

Victor Alonzo Wood was born Dec. 10, 1918, in the Town of Dewhurst, Clark County, to Homer and Edith (Allen) Wood. He was raised in the Sparta area.

He married the former Josephine "Josie" N. Janicki, Nov. 12, 1941, in Black River Falls. They had lived in Merrillan and Melrose and farmed in the town of Franklin, Jackson County, for many years. Victor and Josie later lived in Black River Falls for many years and spent winter months in Mission, TX.

Victor had been employed as a construction worker at Rosemont, MN. In addition to farming, he had cut pulpwood for Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Mill for 30 years and was employed at Fort McCoy for many years. In 1968, Victor founded Wood Sales and Service, Inc. of Black River Falls. He was active in the operation of Wood Sales and Service, Inc. for many years.

He was a member of the Black River Falls Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Victor enjoyed visiting with his many friends and acquaintances. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was well-known for his strong handshake.

Survivors include his wife, Josie; four daughters, Judy (Lance) Schultze and Mary Lou Zuege, both of Milwaukee, Vicki Amundson of Black River Falls and Kathy (Marvin) Anderson of Canyon Lake, TX; two sons, Harvey (Diane) Wood and Jeffrey Wood, both of Black River Falls; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Megan Anderson; two sons-in-law, Dean Amundson and Gordon Zuege; four sisters, Gladys Larson, Faye Buol, Inez Blair and Dymple Colwell; and a brother, Maurice Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2007, from the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls.

Family and friends are invited for visitation Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls, (www.buswellfuneralhome.com), and at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until services.
