Taylor, H.E. #2 (31 DEC 1838 - 23 MAY 1898)

H.E. Taylor, the jeweler, died Monday, May 23, 1898, at 12 o’clock midnight, of uremia, aged 59 years. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 p.m., from the house. Mr. Taylor was born in Tioga Co., N.Y., Dec. 31, 1838; learned his trade partly of D.D. Brown, for whom he worked in 1864. Previous to that he had been a carpenter. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. H., 64th N.Y.V., but was discharged on account of being disabled from rheumatism. He returned to New York. Gave his attention to the jewelry business, and worked in Minnesota till 1868. Came here (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) and opened a store in 1872. He married Miss Nellie Chase of New York state.

Mr. Taylor has run a jewelry store, repairing guns, watches, clocks, etc. in this city for many year. He was a most quiet, retiring man, and noted for skill as a deer hunter. It was a peculiarity of his that he could never eat tame meat, and always kept his larder supplied with wild game. The forests, streams and by-paths of this region were known to him as in the page of a favorite book to a scholar.
