Ed Monness (July 28, 1924 - June 30, 2007)

COLBY -- Ed Monness, 83, of Colby, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Unity. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2007, and from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday, both at the church.

Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ed was born July 28, 1924, to Alvin and Laura Monness. Ed and Lois Moeller were married July 30, 1955, in Illinois. He entered the service from 1945 to 1946 and served in the South Pacific as a teletype operator. Ed farmed in Illinois and worked as a carpenter and contractor. They moved to Colby in 1971 and farmed until he retired in 1984.

Ed is survived by his wife, Lois of Colby; his children, Danita Monness of Guffey, Colo., Kenneth (Brenda) Monness of Unity, and William "Bill" Monness of Colby; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Lucille (Marvin) Kilty of Colby, Ellen Altizer of Vienna, W. Va., and Joyce Sparks of Lynchburg, Tenn.
