Klessig, Mary (9 JUL 1887 - 21 JUN 1934)

Mrs. Albert Klessig, residing one and one-half miles west of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), died at her home this morning about ? o’clock, after and illness of more than two months duration.

Funeral arrangements as completed this morning, will be services at the home and then services at the Reform Church, Curtiss at 2:00, Monday.

Mrs. Klessig is an early resident in this vicinity, having lived here the better part of her life. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn, an aged mother, Mrs. Joseph Kraut Sr., three brothers, Leo, Arthur and Frank of Curtiss, and one sister, Bertha, also of Curtiss, Wis.

Rev. Hartmann will conduct the services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Klessig of Curtiss, who died last Thursday were held Monday at the Curtiss Reformed Church, Rev. H.K. Hartman officiating.

Pallbearers were Albert Mandel, Hugo Kobs, Herman Marquardt, Raymond Klessig, Harold Klessig and Franklin Kraut. Floral tributes were in charge of Ethel, Wilma and Dorothy Kraut, Ethel Erickson, Marie Aldinger, Veleta Kraut, Maxine Marquardt and Mernabel Laabs.

Mrs. Henry Peterson and Mrs. H.K. Hartman, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Jakel at the organ, sang a German song and "Some Day We’ll Understand." Members of the Reformed Ladies Aid Society, of which Mrs. Klessig was president, also sang a German song.

Mrs. Klessig was born Mary Kraut, in Austria, on July 9, 1887, and came to Curtiss with her parents when she was five years of age. She lived continuously on the Kraut farm for 42 years, her husband having rented the farm after their marriage on June 1, 1920.

She was president of the ladies’ aid of the Reformed Chruch at Curtiss and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Owen, Wis.

Surviving relatives include her husband, her mother, Mrs. Joseph Kraut Sr., a sister, Bertha, and two brothers, Frank and Arthur, all of Curtiss, and a brother, Leo, at Stephenson, Mich. A nephew, Andor Kraut, 9, who has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Klessig since infancy, also survives.
