Schwantes, Viola Ann (Marriage - 16 June 1935)

A double marriage ceremony at high noon Saturday was performed for Miss Viola Ann Schwantes, Spencer, and Oscar W. Carlson, Unity, and for Miss Bernice Mildred Carlson, Unity, and Norman O. Helterhoff, of Randolph, at Trinity Lutheran church of Unity. The Rev. J. A. Olson officiated for both couples at a double ring as well as double wedding ceremony.

Mrs. Alma Carlson, Unity, is the mother of both Oscar and Bernice. Miss Schwantes is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Schwantes, of Spencer. Norman Helterhoff is the son of Mrs. Adeline Helterhoff, Appleton.

Miss Pearl Burnett, Unity, and Harold E. Helterhoff, Appleton, attended Miss Carlson and Mr. Helterhoff. Miss Schwantes and Mr. Carlson were attended by Miss Dorothy Hinz, Spencer, and George W. Carlson, West Allis.

The brides were gowned alike, in rosepoint lace over satin, fashioned on princess lines, with tiny puffs at the shoulders of long tightly fitted sleeves. They both wore circular tucked tulle veils, of fingertip length, which fell from small rose-point lace turbans. Each carried a bouquet of roses, sweet peas and lilies.

Miss Burnett and Miss Hinz wore floor length gowns of blue chiffon with white hats and accessories. Each carried a corsage of sweet peas and roses.

White flannels and navy coats were worn by the grooms and groomsmen.

Little Lindy Schwantes and Floy Ann Schimmel acted as flower girls. Ringbearer was little Pauline Carlson.

During the service, Miss Dorothy E. Carlson, sister of Miss Bernice and Oscar Carlson, sang "Because" and "I Love You Truly."

Baskets of snowballs and bridal wreath decorated the altar.

A reception and dinner for 60 immediate relatives took place at the Carlson residence following the ceremony.

A two week wedding trip to the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park, and Salt Lake City has been planned by both couples.

On their return, Mr. and Mrs. Helterhoff will be at home to friends at Hortonville where the groom is employed as manager of the Farmers and Merchants bank.

After July 1, Mr. and Mrs. Carlson will make their home on the groom’s farm near Unity.

Those from out of town to attend the double wedding were Mrs. Alfred Gehrke and children, Clintonville; Dr. and Mrs. Erwin O. Schimmel and children, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Carlson and children, Whitewater; George Carlson and Lloyd Fulton, of West Allis; Mrs. Adeline Helterhoff, and Harry Helterhoff, Appleton; Dorothy Carlson, Lake Mills; Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Neff, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Floyd, and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Abraham, Randolph; and Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Schmidt, Hortonville.
