Fischer, Margaret David (18 FEB 1859 - 12 JUN 1938)

Mrs. Margaret Fischer passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, at 6:50 o’clock Sunday evening, June 12th, 1938, of complications of diabetes and gangrene. She had been a patient at the hospital for the past two months. Her age was 79 years, 3 months and 25 days.

Margaret Walsdorf was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Feb. 18, 1859. In June 1880 she was married to Anton David and to this union was born three daughters, Verona, Ottelia and Eleanor. She came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) with her husband in the year 1883 and this has since been her home. Mr. David died on April 27, 1914.

With her passing another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers, and with her family are left many old and young friends who will sadly miss her. It must be so; these tender human ties cannot be severed without a pang. Yet in such a death there is no cause for grief. Her work in life was done, and done well. Wearied with life’s duties and cares, weary of suffering and waiting she lay down to rest.

Surviving relatives are her husband, F. Fischer, Cadott, three daughters, Mrs. John (Verona) Phillippi, Wausau, Mrs. Louis (Ottelia) Moore, Boyd, and Mrs. Lee J. (Eleanor) Snyder, Thorp; four brothers, Nicholas Walsdorf, Kiel, William and August Walsdorf of Thorp, and Joseph Walsdorf of Stanley.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F.E. Wallace at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church here on Wednesday morning at nine o’clock, and the body was laid to rest in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were: Glen Moore, Robert Moore and Jas. P. Snyder (grandsons), and Leland Walsdorf, Eugene Brunner and Vincent Walsdorf.
