Bleichroth, Traugot (14 Dec. 1851 - 11 Jan. 1937)

Traugot Bleichroth, a prominent citizen of Colby for over fifty years, died Monday morning at ten o’clock, heart trouble being the cause of his departure to the heavenly goal. He was taken ill with the flu ten days previous to his death and then heart trouble set in, due, no doubt, to his advanced age. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the residence and at 2:00 o’clock at the Zion Lutheran church, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

The deceased was born in Bittenburg, near Erfurt, Saxony, Germany, on December 14th, 1851, thus reaching the age of eighty-five years and twenty-eight days. After learning the jewelry and watch repair business, he came to the United States in 1882 and lived in Taylor county until 1884 when he came to Colby and opened a jewelry store here which he conducted until the time of his illness. He was married to Minnie Kobs in Colby January 1, 1885. He is survived by his wife and three children - Anna Bleichroth of Colby, Frieda Bleichroth of Chicago and Helene Waschow of Chicago. Also four grand children. Two sons died in infancy.

The deceased was a good Christian and loyal citizen, always taking interest in the affairs of the community. He was a member of the Colby fire department for over forty years. He had passed his golden wedding day, which was celebrated Jan. 1, 1935, and had filled the various relations in life as son, husband, father, brother, friend, and filled them well.
