Wagner, Elmer Gordon (18 July 1905 - 4 May 1945)

Spencer, Wis. - Elmer Gordon Wagner, 39, died at 7 o’clock last night at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he was a patient the past seven weeks. He had undergone a major operation necessitated by an infected pancreas.

Mr. Wagner was born in Abbotsford July 18, 1905 and spent the past 30 years in Spencer. He was married Sept. 16, 1939, at Spencer to Lola May Schaefer.

Surviving are his wife, his mother in St. Paul; two sisters, Eileen Wagner and Mrs. Lee Seidel, both of St. Paul and five brothers, Verlan, Wayne, Burton and Marion, all at home, and Thomas, in service in Washington, D.C.

This week relatives were notified that his brother, Jack was killed in action in Italy.

The body is lying in state at the Swarthout Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by the Rev. Ellery J. Beal, Methodist pastor. Burial will be made in West Spencer cemetery.

Spencer, Wis. - Funeral services for Elmer Gordon Wagner, 39, who died Friday, May 4, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Swarthout Funeral Home, the Rev. Ellery J. Beal, Marshfield, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was made in West Spencer cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Tack, Kenneth Graves, Herman Martin, Norman Wacholtz, Alfred Borth, and Clyde Jacobitz, and flowers were carried by Mrs. Ray Tack, Mrs. Kenneth Graves, Mrs. Herman Martin, Mrs. Alfred Borth, Mrs. Clyde Jacobitz, and Mrs. Arthur Beisner.

Relatives and friends from out of town at the funeral were Mrs. Alvina Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Verlan Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wagner, and Burton Wagner, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Korntved, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ewert, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Ewert and Mrs. Irene Lynn, Wausau; Mrs. George Strohman, Marshfield; Mrs. William Ziebell and Ed Reas, Park Falls; John Reas, Wild Rose; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lindboe, Stetsonville; Mrs. Karl Wistzke, Milwaukee; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Young, Coloma, Mich.

Since he was nine months old, Mr. Wagner lived with his grandmother, Mrs. Louise Voth, at Unity and Spencer until her death. He lived at Spencer 30 years and the past 10 years was employed by the Dairy Belt Cheese and Butter Company.
