Hill, Sanford (20 June 1862 - 31 Dec. 1937)

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Jackson for Sanford Hill who died there Friday evening at 11:00 P.M. at the age of 75 years after an illness of several months. Rev. Harry Lee of the Colby M. E. church officiated and burial was made at Eau Claire where Mr. Hill’s wife and son are buried. Pall bearers were C. Joe Krause, Claude Whitney, Dr. W. W. Payne, Aug. Schoelzel, Henry Reeves, Jr., and Ed. Zillmann.

The deceased was born on June 20th, 1862, in Eau Claire where he was married to Mary Ann Harrington on December 14th, 1885. She died fifteen years ago. Mr. Hill was engaged in railroading for forty years but retired ten years ago. He came to Colby from Ashland eight years ago and made his home with his son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jackson.

Surviving are two daughters and one son - Mrs. Frank Jackson of Colby, Mrs. John Harmon of Ashland and William Hill of Ashland. Also three grand children. One son, Hiram, died a number of years ago.

Although the deceased was not widely known in Colby, those who knew him liked him for he was a congenial and honest gentleman of a friendly disposition.
