Aden, Donald Rae (August 27, 1930 - August 16, 2007)

Donald R. Aden, age 76, of Greenwood, died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Donald Rae Aden was born on August 27, 1930 in Fonda, IA to Reamer A. and Martha A. (Johnson) Aden. He was raised and received his education in Iowa, graduating from high school in Pomeroy, IA in 1949. Don worked as a mechanic for Mosberg Implement and Birkey Implement in Manson, IA and later at U. S. Gypsum in Fort Dodge, IA.

He entered the U. S. Army in February of 1952, where he served overseas in Korea for 12 months as a mechanic at an air field. Don was honorably discharged in November 1953 and returned to Iowa, where he worked for Beneke Motors and Reynolds Garage, both in Manson. He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Otteson at St. Patrick’s on the Lizard Catholic Church, in Clare, IA, on June 23, 1954. They moved to Neillsville on June 4, 1959 and purchased a farm. Don worked for several companies, including: Gross Motors in Neillsville, for 10 years as a mechanic; Mathy Construction in La Crosse, WI; Gaier Construction in Neillsville; Svetlick (Svetlik) Ford Garage in Neillsville, and Nelson Muffler in Neillsville, Wis. They sold the farm and moved to Colby, WI in 1977 and purchased another farm. He retired in October of 1989. They moved to Greenwood on September 29, 1995 and bought a small farm.

He was a life member of the Cloverland Antique Tractor club, a life member of North Central Steam and Gas Engine Club in Edgar, a life member of the Studebaker Club and a member of the National Rifle Association. Don had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and family, hunting, gardening, talking, and restoring John Deere grills.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret, of Greenwood; two daughters, Lynette (Frank) Quinter, of Greenwood; Loni (Richard) Paquette, of Stoughton, WI; four sons, Donald L. (Jean), of Sun Prairie, WI; Mark L., of Willard; Kevin J., of Columbus, WI; William J., (Linda), of Spencer; 16 grandchildren, Skye Frank (special friend, Ryan Warner), Douglas Sheffer (fiancé Natalie Overby), Jamie (Brian) Trongaard, Holly (Matt) Neu, Noah Aden, Jared Aden, Jeremiah Aden, Eathen Aden, Tashyna Aden, Chezyrae Aden, Shynyque Aden, Ashley Aden (special friend, Greg Woiak), Alyssa Aden, Hayley Aden, Jenny Quinter; four great-grandchildren, Vanessa Anderson, Madison Neu, Brielle Woiak, Devan Overby; and one sister, Shirley (Al) Faber, of Johnson, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, W. Dale Aden, Lester R. Aden, Kenneth L. Aden; and his father and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Mary Otteson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 27, 2007, at Cuddie Funeral Home, in Greenwood, with Fr. Woodrow Pace officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
