Schroeder, Mary Ellen A. (13 JUL 1937 - 28 AUG 2007)

Mary Ellen A. Schroeder, 70, Waverly, Iowa, dies on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community after a lengthy illness. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Wartburg College Chapel. Burial of the cremains was held at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Harlington Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa.

Mary Ellen Adeline Mueller was born on July 13, 1937, in Eau Claire, to August A. and Myrtle Marie (nee Farnsworth) Mueller. She attended school in Loyal and graduated from Loyal High School in 1955. After high school, she started working for First National Bank in Waverly. She married Duane Schroeder on Aug. 9, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. She took some time off to raise their son, Randall, and then went back to work and retired from the bank in 2000. Her husband died on Aug. 19, 2004, in Sinai, Romania, while doing what they both loved so much, world travel. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, was an active member and was a previous officer of the Wartburg Women. She was also a member of the Bremer County Genealogical Society, Bremer County Historical Society, and the Wisconsin Historical Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially the time she spent with her grandsons, Lukas and Nikolaus. She also enjoyed genealogy, history, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include her son, Randall Schroeder and his wife, Lenore, Waverly; two grandsons, Lucas and Nikolaus, Waverly; and one sister-in-law, Joan Newton, Marshfield.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, duane; her stepfather, Louis Herman Radke; and her stepbrother, Gene Radke.

Memorials may be directed to the Wartburg Women’s Club Scholarship, Bremer County Genealogical Society, or the Wisconsin Historical Society.
