Rewis, Lydia Olivia (Marriage - 1942)

It was through a visit to Neillsville by Miss Nan Lowe the first of the week that it became known to friends of the J. B. Lowe family, that her nephew, Dr. Joseph Edwin Runkel, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Runkel, of Waukesha, recently was married to Miss Lydia Olivia Rewis of Richmond, Va., the marriage taking place at Oaklette Methodist Church in Norfolk.

Mr. Runkel’s mother is the former Miss Lucy Lowe of Neillsville, who was an instructor of music in this city.

The bride is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Moore Institute of Art, Philadelphia, from which she was awarded a European fellowship in 1939. She studied in Paris under Pierre Bacot and was in Italy for further study until the outbreak of the war. For the past year she has been head of the art department and instructor in art at Carroll College.

The groom received his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, his Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota and his A. B. from Carroll college, to which, upon obtaining his doctorate, he returned, as instructor in psychology, which position he now holds.

After a wedding trip through the North Carolina and Virginia mountains and other points in the south, Dr. and Mrs. Runkel returned to Waukesha, Wis., to reside at 415 North Greenfield Ave.

Mr. Runkel’s parents, Waukesha, his aunts, Mrs. Florence Weeks and daughter, Miss Jane, and Miss Nan Lowe, all of Milwaukee, were present for the wedding.
