Garry, Antoinette (25 Aug. 1923 - 3 May 2007)

STEWARTVILLE -- The funeral for Antoinette "Toni" Garry will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville, with the Rev. Gregory Havel officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Garry, 83, died Thursday (May 3, 2007) of natural causes at Stewartville Care Center, where she had been a resident since December 2003.

Antoinette Clara Schneider was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Abbotsford, Wis. She moved with her family to Bancroft, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1941. She married Paul L. Garry on Aug. 28, 1945. They lived in Bancroft until moving to Stewartville in 1956. Mr. Garry worked in bookkeeping at McGhie and Betts Co. in Rochester. He died on April 13, 1981. She was a homemaker and worked for a number of years at the Used-A-Bit Clothing store in Stewartville. She then worked as a nurses aide at Stewartville Care Center for 25 years, until her retirement in 1995. She was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Stewartville and was active in its CCW and the Rosary Society and served as a catechist. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, fishing, gardening, playing cards and crafting.

Survivors include five daughters, Ginny (Mike) Lipscomb of Wabasha, Jan (Jim) Lunde of Rochester, Kat "Chris" Garry of Rochester, Mary (Craig) Knutson of Stewartville, and Jane (Rob) Kerber of Woodbury; three sons, Pat (Lynn) of Rochester, Mike (Deb) of Rochester, and John (Mary) of Rochester; her twin brother, Tony (Alice) Schneider of Bancroft, Iowa, and another brother, Joe (Sheila) Schneider of St. Paul; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers and a grandson.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and an hour prior to the service at the church. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
