Wittig, Velda L. (20 Mar. 1918 - 9 May 2007)

JUNEAU - Velda L. Wittig, of Juneau, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at the age of 89 years. She was born in Loyal, Wis., on March 20, 1918, the daughter of Albert and Lena (Luther) Foelske.

She married Lester Wittig on April 29, 1939, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hartford. Velda was a volunteer in many organizations within St. John's Lutheran Church: The Ladies Aid, vacation Bible school, making many of the church banners, The "Jesus Cares" program, and Sunshine Committee. She also volunteered at Bethesda and was employed, then later volunteered at Clearview Nursing Home.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester, and her sister, Alleda. Velda was the dear mother of Geraldine (the late Bill Affeld) Maywald, Arkansas, and Vernon (Yvonne) Wittig, New Berlin. Loving grandmother of Cheryl (Art) Wakeman, Gary Affeld, Wendy (Don) Peschl, Michelle (Bill) Kroll, James Affeld, Rachel (Greg) Wehking, Jeremy Wittig, Daniel Wittig and Joshua Wittig; proud great-grandmother of Megan Kroll, Jessica Kroll, Emily Kroll, Bill Wakeman, Mary Wakeman, Alyssa Wehking, Tresna Wehking and Naomi Wittig.. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Juneau. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. The Rev. Paul Hirsch will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home - Juneau is serving the family.
