Buss, Amelia (4 MAY 1848 - 19 MAR 1939)

Mrs. Wm. Buss passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jos. Ziehr at Cadott, Wis., at 2:30 a.m., Sunday, March 19th, 1939. She had reached the age of ninety years, ten months and fifteen days.

Until the Spring of 1936 she maintained her household in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), but has since resided with her daughter Amelia in Cadott. She fell and broke her hip in October 1936, but recovered after being confined to the hospital for five and one-half months.

Amelia Hilgendorf was born in Labes, Pomerania, Germany, on May 4, 1848. She was united in marriage to Wm. Buss on Sept. 15, 1869 in Germany and six years later came to America with her husband, settling in Detroit, Mich. They moved on a farm in the town of Reseburg in 1890 and this became her home until the family moved to the village of Thorp in 1914. Mr. Buss died on March 1, 1915. She was the mother of ten children, three of whom preceded her in death, Fred, Minnie and Henry. Surviving her are, four sons, Albert of Withee, Charles, Greenwood, Herman, Thorp, and William, St. Paul; three daughters, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Beller, Thorp, Mrs. Jos. (Amelia) Ziehr, Cadott, and Mrs. John (Anna) Wilcox, Antigo; thirty-three grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

The body of the deceased was brought to Thorp and lay in state at the Bogumill Funeral Home until the time of the funeral which took place at the Ev. Lutheran Church at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. K.C. Bubeck, in German, and Rev. F.H. Sprengler, in English. She was buried beside her husband in the East Thorp Cemetery. Grandchildren acted as pallbearers, Edward Ziehr, Elmer Buss, Geo. E. Schmidt, Robert Buss, Chas. W. Schmidt and Chester Buss.
