Servaty, Emma (? - 14 Sept. 1942)

Mrs. Charles Servaty passed away at two a.m. September 14, following an operation at a Fresno, Cal., hospital on the ninth day of the same month.

Mrs. Servaty, whose maiden name was Emma Fricka, grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of Greenwood. On the 24th day of Sept. 1886, she was married to Charles Servaty of Neillsville, Wis. The couple established their home here. Mr. Servaty was one of the early day merchants in this city, conducting the north side store. He was a carpenter by trade, following that line of work for many years. It was this work which took him to Fresno, California, to work on the large brewery building which was erected there by Ernest Eilert in 1903. Mr. Servaty left in January, Mrs. Servaty and their five children going later. Fresno had been Mrs. Servaty’s home since with the exception of a few years when the family lived at Selma, in that state.

Two years ago, Mrs. Servaty and her eldest daughter, Miss Catherine, came to Greenwood to visit a sister of the former, Mrs. Mathilda Baeschlin, who was ill and who died that fall. They also visited their old Neillsville friends and their old home, the property now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Remus on North Emery St. This was their first visit back to Wisconsin since their departure.

The departed was an expert seamstress and a beautiful housekeeper and manager. Her ability to make all the clothing for her own family and others, to keep her home spotless and to rear a group of lovely children could only be accounted for by her tireless energy and aptitude as a homemaker. She also was all that could be desired in the way of tolerance with the neighbor children who loved to frequent her home. There was a given time for play in that well ordered household yet it was firmly understood by the little tasks appointed to them must be performed in a satisfactory manner.

Mrs. Servaty is survived by a son, Walter and five daughters, Miss Catharine, a public school instructor, who resides at R. 1, Box 159 A., Fresno; Mrs. Isabelle Rowan, Mrs. Avis Matthews and Mrs. Francis Milmeier, all of California. She also is survived by two sisters.

Funeral services were held in Fresno on Wednesday following her death.
