Schnabel , Alfred Ernest (16 Sept. 1855 - 1 Nov. 1942)

Alfred Ernest Schnabel, age d57 years, one month and fifteen days, passed away at two p.m. Sunday after a few days illness at his home in the town of Grant.

Funeral services were held at two p.m. Wednesday at the Schiller-Terhune Funeral Home, Rev. O. Asp officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mr. Schnabel was born in the town of Grant, living during his entire lifetime on the farm where he was born Sept. 16, 1885, to Ernest and Paulina (Miche) Schnabel. He attended the rural school in his home community and St. John’s Lutheran School, Neillsville, Wis.

He was united in married Dec. 12, 1908, to Lena Ernestine Lipke. Ten children were born to this union: Lillian, Mrs. Paul Wagner, and Clarence, Neillsville; Herbert, York township; Harold, Verlyn and Leon, Neillsville, and Velda, Ilene, Delbert and Russell at home.

The departed is survived by his wife and children, five grandchildren and a by a sister, Mrs. Gus. Holtz of Neillsville, Wis.

He devoted every ounce of his energy to the job of making as comfortable a home as possible for his family. This required more than ordinary effort in the case of Mr. Schnabel for, aside from his farm work he took on many jobs of road grading and saw-milling for Walter Moldenhuaer during the past sixteen years. The duties on the farm, however, had been gradually lightened during the last few years by the help of his sons.

He was a thoroughly honest man, a kind and loving husband and father an will be greatly *Rest of cut. *
