Meyers, Henry (1 Jan. 1855 - 10 Mar. 1940)

Henry Meyers, a prominent and well known Green Grove farmer, passed on to the distant shore Sunday morning at 9:45 at the age of 85 years, old age complications being the cause of his death. Funeral services will be held this Thursday afternoon at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church in Green Grove, Rev. M. C. Goetsch officiating, and internment will be made in the parish cemetery. Pall bearers will be Chris Dethlefsen, Fred Machlett, Frank Kraut, Fred Laabs, John Miller and Herman Singstock.

Mr. Meyers was born on January 1, 1855, in New York City, N.Y., and was married to Caroline Plutte on November 21, 1870, at Howard’s Grove, Sheboygan county. They came to the town of Green Grove sixty years ago and engaged in the farm business. Mr. Meyers also worked as a carpenter. Mr. and Mrs. Meyers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last fall when all their children were home.

Surviving relatives are his wife, one son, Herbert Meyers of Colby, five daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Lillian) Batterud of Livingston, Montana, Mrs. Richard (Mayme) Sampe of Vincennes, Indiana, Mrs. Otto (Cora) Schulte of Colby, Mrs. Stella Salter of Wis. Rapids, Mrs. George (Della) Gebhardt of Wauwatosa, Wis., one brother, August Meyers, of Madison, one sister, Mrs. Herman Schuette of Sheboygan, 15 grand children and four great grand children. Three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

The deceased was well and favorably known, honored and trusted by all who knew him which was exemplified by the many offices he held in the church, school district and town. Like all our early pioneers, he was a good Christian, of a congenial and hospitable disposition. He filled the various relations in life and filled them well.
