Dempsey, Charles W. (14 NOV 1858 - 23 MAR 1940)

Charles Weyland Dempsey, 81, passed away at his home early Friday morning where he had been ill with pneumonia. Funeral services were conducted from the Griebenow-Weirich Funeral Parlors at 10 o’clock a.m., Tuesday with Father R.E. Ortmayer officiating. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery.

Charles Weyland Dempsey was born in Stillman Valley, Illinois, on Nov. 14th, 1858, the son of Robert and Mary Dempsey. He lived there until the year 1907, at which time and and his wife and two children came to Withee (Clark Co.), Wis. He later moved to Owen, where he operated the livery business for many years.

During the thirty-seven years that Mr. Dempsey had made his home at either Owen and Withee where he conducted a livery business in both towns at various time, he made many dear friends. His stable was always one of the finest, he knew everyone on the road and prided himself on his beautiful teams of horses and the neat appearance of his rigs as they would go out on calls.

His later years were spent at Withee where he passed away at the age of 82 years, 3 months on March 23rd, after an illness of a few days. His health had not been so good the past couple of years, as only last winter he had an attack of pneumonia which weakened him considerably.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and seven children, Orin H. Dempsey, Robert C. Dempsey, Harry O. Dempsey, Lewis L. Dempsey, Glenn R. Dempsey, Mrs. (Elizabeth) Gordon Kin, Owen and Mrs. Mable Forsaith of Belvidere, Ill., and a host of friends.
