Poppe, Josephine (28 JAN 1876 - 8 OCT 1940)

Final rites were conducted this afternoon at two p.m. from the Griebenow Funeral Home for Mrs. Josephine Poppe, 64 years, 9 months and 10 days of age, who passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1940, at the Legault Hospital. The Rev. W.P.D. Powe of the Congregational Church, Owen, officiated at the service and interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery.

Josephine Ann Ozias was born on Jan. 28, 1876, in Chippewa Falls, where she made her home until she was 13 years of age. She then moved to Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) where she made her home with her sister. Three years later she was united in marriage to her husband, Ernest Poppe, who preceded her in death, and to this union was born nine children.

All of her life except the first 13 years, she has lived at Longwood, residing at the farm home. She was a devoted and loving mother to her family and a true Christian. When the Congregational Church was organized at Longwood she was one of the first members to join and up to the time of her death she was an active and untiring worker in its activities.

She is survived by two sons, Robert and Dan of Longwood; five daughters, Mrs. Olaf Moen of Thorp, Mrs. George Wells of Footville, Mrs. Cecelia Bolt and Miss Grace Poppe of Chicago, and Mrs. John Scheuermann of Longwood; also a brother, Albert, living in Michigan; and a sister, May, who resides in Oregon, and 29 grandchildren.
