Joe Halenka

Joe L. Halenka, age 75, of Thorp, Wis., formerly of Milwaukee, Wis., passed away Monday, April 24, 2006, at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Eau Claire, Wis.

He was born in Gilman, Wis. on August 31, 1930, to Joseph and Cecelia (Matyacz) Halenka. Joe attended Gilman public schools up until the tenth grade. He was married to Amelia Abramowicz in Lublin, Wis. on November 5, 1949. He worked as a tradesman for the Milwaukee Millwright Union 2337, until he retired in August of 1993.

Joe is survived by his wife, Amelia; children, Sandra (James) Bitenc of Arlington, Texas, Brian (Cindy) of Thorp, Wis., Dennis of New Berlin, Wis., Peggy of Thorp, Wis., and Joseph L. Jr. (Roxanne) of Wichita, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Trepanier; many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Josephine Brazgel and Ann Bonczkiewicz.

A memorial service will be held at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp, Wis. on Monday, May 1, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend Keith Apfelbeck officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Rosary will be at 10:15 a.m. with the service immediately following. Interment will be in Milwaukee, Wis., at a later date.

The Cremation Society of Wisconsin is serving the family.
